The next Commissioner for Education in Cross River State would be subjected to serious scrutiny to ensure that the education sector gets the best professional with the passion to deliver quality education in the state.
Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, John Gaul Lebo gave the indication when the National Association of Parent Teachers Association, NAPTAN, visited his office recently. He added that in line with what role the Assembly will play in helping to address the dwindling educational fortunes of the state, a bill, the ‘Educational Regulatory Agency Bill’ which will put in place a strong regulatory framework to tackle the intractable challenges bedeviling the Cross River education sector is in the offing to help to improve the quality of learning in schools.
Earlier, Chairman of NAPTAN Cross River State chapter, Boniface Odey lamented that deplorable infrastructure, delayed salaries and paucity of teachers topped the issues affecting the Association.
Odey begged that the NECO examination be made compulsory for every student while appealing that a professional teacher be appointed the Commissioner for Education so that effective policy formulation, implementation and supervision can be achieved.
